Tokyo at night is a different city. The daytime crowds dissolve into something more intimate — salary workers heading home, bartenders wiping down counters, vending machines humming in empty alleys.
Golden Gai is best after midnight. The tiny six-seat bars fill with conversation. No phones, no photographs allowed in most of them. I shot only the alleys between.
